Permit - Trachinotus falcatus

Family Carangidae, JACKS and POMPANOS

Description: With a deeper body and a blunter head than a Pompano. Large sickle shaped tail. Scutes absent. Silver coloring, occasionally has small black blotch on side under the pectoral fin. May have some yellow on the underside as well.

Similar fish: Pompano

Where found: Found on the surf, along inlets, and pases of both coasts. More common in south Florida.

Size: 20 to 30 pounds is fairly common, can weigh in as much as 50 pounds.

Remarks:

Florida record: 56 pounds, 2 ounces.

Regulations:

Size Limit: Not less than 11". or more than 20". Fork

Season:

Bag Limit: 6 per person per day of aggregate of Permit & Pompano.

Comments: May possess 1 over 20in. of either Permit or Pompano. Gigging, spearing, snatching prohibited.
