Schoolmaster - Lutjanus apodus

Family Lutjanidae, SNAPPERS

Description: Deep bodied, yellowish with several prominent vertical white bars on the sides. White bars nearly disappear on larger specimens.

Similar fish: Dog Snapper.

Where found: All of Florida. Juveniles are plentiful in shallow costal waters, as they grow larger they work themselves into deeper water near reefs and dropoffs.

Size: A pound or less.
