Destin Fishing Report 5-25-25
Sort of like pro football has a preseason, we got a bonus red snapper preseason this weekend before the official start next Sunday.
Bottom Fishing
With the opening of red snapper, the reports were coming in are all over the board. Many anglers reported limits before 9am both Saturday and Sunday. Others reported quality catches but they had to work at it. There were also reports of anglers that really struggled.
What did seem to be consistent was that fishing was better on natural bottom than man made structure.
There were plenty of vermillion snapper, black snapper, and triggerfish caught as well.
Offshore Trolling
The Mississippi River is dumping muddy water and everything from the fads west is in dirty water. Fishing was slow there.
The best water and best fishing was southeast in the area starting at the Ozark down to the Alaska and beyond to the wings and squiggles. There were reports of wahoo, mahi, and blackfin in that area.
Pier Fishing
They caught quite a few mahi this week. A few king runs and scattered spanish.
Tiger sharks and tarpon have been spotted. The tiger sharks bring the summer cobia.
Surf Fishing
The June grass and sargasso weed have made fishing difficult. Find clean water and you will still find pompano, whiting, ladyfish, hardtails, and a few spanish.
Nearshore Trolling
Bonita are showing up in better numbers. Spend a day catching and processing these into strip baits for snapper fishing and you will find you have another great option for bait this summer.
Kings have been so so. Several days the spanish were still pretty good around the bridge, pass, and sea buoy.
Bay Fishing
Still some spanish around the Destin bridge and north of crab island.
For trout and reds head into the bayous and cast net menhaden and take those to the grass flats for some great action.
