Destin Fishing Report 1-6-19

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s! It’s time to start the new year off and catch some fish, hopefully we are past the rainy and foggy days.

There are some flounder biting on bull minnows, the flounder have been spotty this year but you can work the near shore reefs and catch a mess.

Bottom Fishing
Mingo snapper have been plentiful, they are best in 120-250ft depths. Red grouper are biting on the east beach 75-150ft deep, Scamp and yellow edge grouper have been biting a little in depts. From 200-400ft deep. Surprisingly out on the edges the blackfin tuna have still been making a showing.

Surf Fishing
There have been occasional pompano on the warmer south wind days, some whiting and a few reds.

Bay Fishing
Reds and sheepshead around the Destin Bridge, Coast Guard Station and the West Jetty. Trout have moved to bayous with deeper water and mud bottom. Live shrimp for all.

Pier Fishing
Winter bonita show up some days, just a slow pick of whiting, reds and sheepshead. Some days a few flounder on bull minnows.
