Destin Fishing Report 07-25-18
Well as I’m sure everyone is aware snapper season is now closed but this by no means is an end to fishing, Destin being what it is we have many, many other species. Take grouper as an example, we have gag grouper, red grouper, yellow edge grouper, scamp and snowy grouper. We have deep dropping for Tilefish, Barrelfish, and Swordfish. Just because Red snapper have closed the opportunities to have a awesome day are there each and every time you leave the dock.
King bite has become steady fishing natural bottom and wrecks, Bonita seem to be plentiful and there are some schoolie dolphin around.
Consistent catches of wahoo and dolphin trolling rips, temperature breaks and deep edges, The marlin bite and the tuna bite is good once you get to the spur and beyond.
Grouper are moving along rock bottom and edges 250-400ft, fishing the shallows say 120-165ft you will find a good bite of Vermillion snapper and White snapper. Chum over reefs in 85-150ft for Black snapper.
Deep Drop Bottom Fishing
As mention in the openin,g there are lots of choices here range from Tilefish, Barrelfish, Snowy grouper and Yellow Edge grouper. You also have daytime and night time Swordfish which has been steady.
Trout and Reds are both biting but the heat requires more effort from you to catch them. Focus fishing very early and very late in the day or at night around dock lights. Of course, lice shrimp, menhaden and finger mullet are favored baits to can catch a few on suspending hard baits and weighted soft plastics.
Well its shark week on TV and might as well be shark week at the beach. Most any evening you can find plenty of bull sharks, sand sharks and black tip sharks roaming just off the surf line, try cut bonita, ladyfish or mullet for bait.
Tarpon are the favored targets, fish 3-4oz swimbaits or live herring or cigar minnows. A few days this week there were good funs of bonita, hard tails and ladyfish.
