Let’s talk about what is good now and what’s upcoming. Kings, Spanish, Triggerfish, and Pompano have all been very good lately. Best Pompano bite in years! Amberjack opens in a few weeks and we should hear soon on the Snapper days. As most of you already know Cobia season has been a bust, sorry to tell you that but must be honest in our reports.

Kings are biting on a regular basis, several options on how to catch are trolling with Yozuri or Rapala plugs rigged with 4-8oz trolling leads, there are also good results with slow trolling live cigar minnows. Look for reefs or wrecks in 65-150ft depths. Spanish are plentiful trolling straw rigs around the pass, harbor, and bay. Spotty action on blackfin tuna.

Bottom Fishing:

Mingo snapper and Triggers are plentiful on cut squid and Mackerel, you will find triggers best 65-150ft and Mingo snapper 90-200ft on both natural bottom and ledges. Some pretty Red and Scamp Grouper being brought in this week. Best action on Red Grouper is the east beach and hard bottom south of that. Fish 80-200ft. Scamp on both the south-east and southwest ledges 180-350ft range.

Surf and Jetties:

Pompano is plentiful as mentioned earlier. Bottom fish with fresh shrimp or Sand Fleas. On the jetties you can catch bottom fishing or jigging, pompano jigs and goofy jigs both are working well; pink, orange or chartreuse jigs are best. Plenty of sharks after dark on Mullet or Bonita chunks.

Trout and Reds are on the flats and around bayou mouths most every morning and some evenings. You can fish topwater plugs for exciting action, slow fish soft plastics or fish live shrimp under a popping cork.

Kings and Spanish are the best action. Catch kings on Rapala lures or live Cigar Minnows. Spanish are biting silver and red or white and red Gotcha plugs. Pompano very good on pompano jigs and goofy jigs.
