We had a little better luck with the weather this week than last, but it was still not ideal for going out past the five-mile mark. We started off the week with highs in the 70’s with a few days popping up to about 80. Fingers crossed that this slight warm-up will bring in the Kings!
Surf Fishing wins for the second week in a row for the most lucrative area to fish with Pompano everywhere, upper slot Reds, Blues, and few but huge Whiting.
Hurry and grab yourself a surf rod!
You can find some nice sized Trout and Redfish cruising the flats in 4-6 feet of water. Use live shrimp, soft plastics or hard baits.
With bait showing up in the bay Trout are starting to get schooled up.
The warmer temperatures have brought the Spanish back in. Catch them off the piers and while trolling with Gotcha Plugs, Mackerel Trees, and Spoons.
Squid fishing is so good it has been hard to keep squid rigs on the shelf! Catch them in the marinas and off bridges.
Sheepshead bite has slowed down through the pass, and there aren't many Kings showing up yet. The water temperature keeps bouncing back and forth; it needs to hit 68 degrees and stay there to bring in the Kingfish.
You can catch a lot of Pompano and Spanish along the beach, and around near shore wrecks and reefs plenty of Trigger fish & Vermillion.
The storms this week have kept a lot of anglers off the water, but of those that ventured out caught Triggerfish, B linner, Kings, and Cobia.
The Gold medal winner for the week is Surf Fishing. The surf is a bit of a mixed bag right now; Pompano, Sheepshead, Blue Fish, slot Reds, and Whiting. The Blues are loving Bucktails and Spoons.
Pompano are being caught in droves on Fishbites, frozen shrimp, and Sand Fleas, and pompano jigs. The good thing you can find a lot of Sand Fleas right now with a Sand Flea rake.
Whiting bite is slow, but the ones that are being caught are very large.
