PC/PCB Fishing Report 12-27-24
Bay Fishing
Many land-based fisherman have reported the past week was good on the jetties for redfish. Some sheephead, bluefish, and some spanish as well. There has been some dredge operations at times in the pass based on reports. If so and they churn up your area, it will be time to move. That absolutely will shut it down.
The bridges have continued to have black drum actively feeding. Especially the Hathaway, but also the Bailey Bridge. Redfish are doing decent on a moving tide and there have been continued reports of white or silver trout.
Specs and reds are still out and around the flats. Mullet are up and around too. In residential canals, bayous, and all the regular places. Some are great bait size for big trout or reds. If you go out bottom fishing too, they would make awesome baits as well.

Surf Fishing
The whiting bite picked back up this week with steady catches of pompano as well. This maybe one of the best December surf fishing months in forever! There has always been some, but lately the bite rivals the Spring and Fall bite at times.
Forecasts have us with warmer temps over the weekend and southeasterly winds should help the bite of the next few days. Add a bonus of high tides coming in at dark or a little after should mean the bite will be on in the afternoon until a bit after dark at least.
Scout those cuts. Blanched sandfleas on our various 2 hook pomano rigs or with peeled shrimp are working. There have been reports of of anglers using Fishgum or FishBites only as well.

Pier Fishing
There are a lot of things going on at the piers. There have been reports to our west of blackfin tuna showing up so that is entirely possible at the right time.
Winter bonita, bluefish, spanish, redfish, along with some flounder and blackdrum are being caught. Pompano and whiting are also doing well.
Bottom Fishing
Red Snapper are open the rest of 2024!
No changes here! It just is really good right now. It is truly amazing. The bite just doesn’t get much better! Add to that, it doesn’t get much closer either! Red snapper limits are common and quick. The flounder bite is still going as well on nearshore wrecks. Out a bit further there are plenty of vermillion snapper to keep you busy! If you are anchored or virtual anchored with a trolling motor, put out a flat line with a live bait for a blackfin tuna.

Nearshore Trolling
Definitely not at its best right now. That said, you can still catch some spanish or bluefish this way near the sandbars. Outside the bars or perhaps in the trough. Watch for surf fisherman if you get inside the trough.
You may still catch a blackfin tuna as will trolling lures or just flat lining a live bait, bump trolling, etc.
Offshore Trolling & Bottom Fishing
There were reports of some tuna catches and some wahoo.
The bottom bite has been much better than trolling. Almost all the bottom species are cooperating. Snappers, groupers, and such are all cooperating!
Not much has been reported on swordfish.
