PC/PCB Fishing Report 2-11-25
Bay Fishing
Apparently the trout do not care about anything Punxsutawney Phil had say about 6 more weeks of winter! They are moving back out of inlets and winter holding grounds quickly. Captain Erik Wilkas of Semper-Fi Charters and Tours has been booked a lot of late, and he is reporting that they are in fact moving out. He also said he is having great success on soft plastic shrimp and lures like the Paul Brown lures. He also has been finding and catching redfish schooled up on the flats feeding on minnows.
There are also reports of redfish moving into some residential canals and feeding on fiddler crabs, minnows, and finger mullet. Work the mouths of the freshwater inlets and the adjacent flats to find the trout and redfish.
There is some dredging going on at the pass so that has shutdown fishing during times they are actively dredging.
The sheepshead are around the bridges and there have been limits caught. The most successful anglers are using light jigs with fiddler crabs to entice the bite. As mentioned in the past, a Fish-N-Mate aluminum sandflea rake works great to scrape off barnacles and capture them in the basket. If you do this, you can go to any likely spot and find out fast if they are there or not.
*BRAND NEW* Ghost Shrimp FishBites
Get 'em while they're hot! We now have Ghost Shrimp FishBites to pair with your bait.
In May they handed out samples to try that were actually early batches. Reports were excellent. They tweaked and improved a few things and now you absolutely should be using some on your next fishing trip to the beach.
Surf Fishing
The water temperature has rebounded to 63+ degrees and rising. Therefore, there are some pompano being caught more and more. There have been some really big whiting too. There are still some blackdrum out there too. Mostly too large to keep for food.
FishBites, Fishgum, peeled shrimp, and ghost shrimp have been the primary baits of successful trips.
Fish-N-Mate Rake and Spike Carrier
This easy to attach accessory will make your next trip to the beach a whole lot easier! This Rake and Spike holder fits 4 Fish-N-Mate Sand Spikes and a Fish-N-Mate Sand Flea Rake.
Pier Fishing
Squid have been the best catch at night. Some are catching close to 100 or so with work. Other than that it has been super slow.
There are sheepshead on the pilings, but they refuse to take a hook thus far. A couple of flounder, redfish, blackdrum, and some random sea bass have been caught.
All that said, it is S-L-O-W! That should change soon because the warming waters are going to work that magic!
Bottom Fishing
Lots of big red snapper are being caught right now in state waters. They are closed, but fish over 30” are being reported.
The vermillion bite is still there but you may have to move around a bit. There are some red groupers of various sizes being caught. Some big ones as well as smaller under slot sized fish.
Nearshore Trolling
Nothing reported much reported at this time
Offshore
The yellowfin bite has been tough, but there is word that there were some wahoos, and some really nice sized swordfish! The tuna bite should pickup very soon.
