PC/PCB Fishing Report 4-10-25
Finally the winds laid down a bit and we have had windows to get out after them! The weekend is shaping up to be really nice and winds should not be too much to stop anyone. Lots of fish have been caught so far this week and this weekend should be absolutely great! Get geared up and be ready to get out there! Now for the details….
Bay Fishing
Spanish mackerel trollers will be all over the normal spots looking to load up on them! So be aware and look for boats moving slower with slightly bent rods off the back. You really do not want to lose a lower unit seal or even a lower unit by winding up their lines on your motor!
A size “0” or “1” Clarkspoon should better match the hatch. According to the reports, the single spoon is out fishing the mackerel trees on most occasions. Make sure you have at least 8 to 10 feet of 40lb mono or fluorocarbon between your lead and the spoon to maximize the bite opportunities. 5-6mph is usually a great speed.
The pass has redfish as well as some bluefish. If you are trolling, keep a bit more than casting distance from the jetties to respect anglers there when present.
The mullet are starting to appear up in the bayous and in canals.
Also crusing in this week were some nice slot reds on a rising tide. The tides are flipping to night time highs and that means looking for them in the canals after dark with a live shrimp on a set rig with a dropper loop. It works well and the set rig keeps it in the zone vs a free line or a bobber if you are land based. After dark the pinfish are much less active so shrimp will not get beaten up by them as much.
Early morning will find the trout up in the low light chasing bait. Lots of minnows are out and about so those are on the trout’s menu. A small 3” – 4” fluke should do really well. If you use indestructible soft plastics like Z-Man, get a pack of Loctite super glue to hold the bait on the hook better and keep it running correctly. We carry this back in our hardware area in front of the paint center.
*BRAND NEW* Ghost Shrimp FishBites
Get 'em while they're hot! We now have Ghost Shrimp FishBites to pair with your bait.
In May they handed out samples to try that were actually early batches. Reports were excellent. They tweaked and improved a few things and now you absolutely should be using some on your next fishing trip to the beach.
Surf Fishing
The pompano bite is really hot right now. There are also some really big whiting being caught as well as some slot to just over slot redfish and a few blackdrum.
Right now the high tide is going to be after dark so the afternoon bite should be decent. That said, there have been bites early in the day and even in the middle of the day recently. The water has cleared up nicely. We will get a little west wind ending today. Hopefully that will not mess up the water clarity too bad.
Fish-N-Mate Rake and Spike Carrier
This easy to attach accessory will make your next trip to the beach a whole lot easier! This Rake and Spike holder fits 4 Fish-N-Mate Sand Spikes and a Fish-N-Mate Sand Flea Rake.
Pier Fishing
There have finally been some king mackerel showing up and some have even been caught.
The cobia have not really been much although a couple have been caught to our west so any day could be the day!
The pompano bite has been good as well as redfish and some black drum.
Spanish mackerel are crashing the bait around the pier at times as well. Casting spoons, plugs, and bubble rigs are the best way to get after the spanish.
Bottom Fishing
The fish are hungry and biting. You can just about name it and they are eating!
The vermillion are very healthy and being caught widely by most anglers.
There are some barely legal red grouper being caught as well as some triggerfish.
There are lots of other fish eating as well. There are Amberjack on most of the high-profile wrecks and they are eating. Red snapper are everywhere, and some nice gag grouper. The wind should settle down this weekend so get out ofter them.
Nearshore Trolling
Most folks are trolling along the bars for spanish mackerel. There are king mackerel starting to show as well. This time of year we get some really nice size king mackerel in the first waves of them. You can catch these along the outside of the sandbars as well.
Many folks will troll shorter for spanish and put a trolling plug like a Rapala X-Rap that resembles a medium sized cigar minnow with a short trace of 40lb single strand wire. You should be able to catch the spanish while still trolling the plug for the king way back.
Offshore
No reports since the wind has stopped, but it should be good. I am sure some will venture out this weekend to avoid the inshore crowds.
