Bay Fishing

We have reached the time of year that brings the redfish up top for some spectacular topwater bites! The place is in the pass with an outgoing tide! Believe it or not, the redfish bite has gotten good around this full moon. Use a large topwater bait with colors you might find in a blue crab. So gold and red mixes are good. Adding some hair to the tail hook helps. Cast out with 30lb to 40lb mono or fluorocarbon leader. Just let it drift in the outgoing current with a very small twitch every 45 seconds or so. The redfish come up top looking for crabs and small baitfish being swept up in the current.

Another method for folks is to catch some crabs or buy some shrimp or minnows. Take those and throw them out with a bubble float and let it drift. The bait will add to the action. Many anglers hitting right can catch 30 fish once they get dialed in on the pattern.

Trout on the flats in the morning have been good as well as redfish on the flats with a rising tide at any time of day for them. Fish with live baits, soft plastics, suspending twitch baits, and the hybrid type with a soft outside and hard inside. Structures like the pass and some docks ard bridges are holding some small legal mangrove snapper.

*BRAND NEW* Ghost Shrimp FishBites

Get 'em while they're hot! We now have Ghost Shrimp FishBites to pair with your bait.

In May they handed out samples to try that were actually early batches. Reports were excellent. They tweaked and improved a few things and now you absolutely should be using some on your next fishing trip to the beach.

Surf Fishing

The pompano are still chewing, but you have to be in the right spot and fish early or late mostly. Sandfleas are the bait, but do not be afraid to add a small piece of shrimp and a thumbnail sized piece of FishBites to the hook as well if it gets slow.

The redfish have still been showing up along the beaches. If you see some in the daytime, they should be there at night. Try a Carolina rig with a finger mullet! Especially a bit after dark!

The whiting bite has been really slow. There are ladyfish and hardtails crusing around so keep an eye on your spread so you can get them off and get your baits back out.

Fish-N-Mate Rake and Spike Carrier

This easy to attach accessory will make your next trip to the beach a whole lot easier! This Rake and Spike holder fits 4 Fish-N-Mate Sand Spikes and a Fish-N-Mate Sand Flea Rake.

Pier Fishing

The king and spanish mackerel have both picked up well. There are some bonita showing up as well as a tarpon or two.

Most of the best fishing is in the early morning and after 5-5:30pm. There is a lot of bait and bait brings the fish!

The king mackerel can be caught with a short wire leader 40lb or less and not coated. Single strand or the braided type if you can’t tie a haywire twist. The Spanish need no wire use 40lb or thinner fluorocarbon/mono.

Bottom Fishing

The bite is on FIRE! Red snapper, vermillion, black snapper, and mahi are all showing up! Oh, and let’s not forget the wahoo and king mackerel!

Here is a prime example of what is biting. Mike and Sandra Fitzgerald and crew booked Captain Eric Wilkas with Semper-Fi Charters and Tours this Thursday and went out to get after them! They did just that! Both Capt Eric and the Fitzgeralds sent in this picture! What a great day! Look, even picked up a nice wahoo!

Nearshore Trolling

The king bite has picked up a bit outside the pass and around the bait schools early in the morning. There are some larger spanish mackerel mixed in so do not be surprised if you get some of those bump trolling.

Further out, there are more kings later in the day around structures. Planers and downriggers will help you get down around 20 ft or more. Usually the kings hangout during the middle day at 20 ft or below due to a bit of a thermocline around that depth.

Dusters and cigar minnows will work. You can also drag some deep diving plugs from Yo-Zuri, Rapala, and Nomad. The nomad Madmacs is a great choice if you want a bit more speed coming in from a trip, or a hop between bottom spots. The biggest sizes can troll up to 20 mph!

Offshore

Once again, not much reported. It was a bit windy early in the week so maybe that is why? It should be good, but the inshore bite has been excellent!
