PC/PCB Fishing Report 9-9-24
UPCOMING RAMP CLOSURE: Saint Andrews State Park will close starting September 9th.
The park staff are uncertain how long the closure will last due construction in and around that area of the park.
Surf Fishing
The water temperatures have dropped a bit getting down to the low 80's. The bite was good until the hurricane in Louisiana stirred up our waters and added a lot of rain. Not much to report this past week since weather was a big factor.
As the water clears up, the bite should be similar to last week’s report. Pompano, whiting, redfish, spanish, and bluefish are all probable early and late. Tides go flat mid week so that won’t be of great help. The surf bite should decent still and improve greatly in the next 2 weeks.
Fish-N-Mate Rake and Spike Carrier
This easy to attach accessory will make your next trip to the beach a whole lot easier! This Rake and Spike holder fits 4 Fish-N-Mate Sand Spikes and a Fish-N-Mate Sand Flea Rake.
Bottom Fishing
The old reliable vermillion is doing well. Captain Eric Wilkas with Semper-Fi Charters has reported that and mangrove snapper are doing decently as well.
Waters are cooling so some decent Fall spots maybe holding some fish. Red snapper are also being caught decently, but generally over 110ft or deeper.
Regulations changes currently :
- Amberjack opened 9/1/24
- Red snapper will reopen starting in September on the Friday – Sunday only each weekend through November for recreational anglers only.
- Gag grouper is now closed.
- Red grouper are now closed for the rest of the year.
Nearshore Trolling
There are spanish in and around bait schools just off the beach and pass. The king bite is not in full Fall mode yet, but the water cooling and bait should have more here soon and some will be jumbos.
There are still kings to be caught now however. Early and late, or downriggers around structure or hard bottom should produce.
Pier Fishing
Still just a few kings with a couple frenzied mornings, but not consistent.
Spanish mackeral and bluefish are being caught and keeping anglers active.
There have been schools of redfish as well just hanging out with some being caught.
Bay Fishing
Lots of fresh water from rains and run off are a big concern. Not many reports, but often trout and reds will move away if the salinity is poor, therefore the pass and areas nearby will get flushed by the tides and be a more comfortable place for the redfish and trout.
Offshore Fishing
Not too much to report with a hurricane in the gulf and poor weather and wind conditions afterwards.
