Navarre Fishing Report 4-24-22
It’s been windy days as of recently, but hey it’s not storming or pouring down rain so we will call that a win. It hasn’t stopped all you pompano and pier fisherman from getting out to try your hand in the tournament going this weekend or waiting for those cobia to run through.
The pier has been seeing many cobia, and a few have been landed the past couple days. Been at least 9 caught and several more have been lost. We have a new batch of custom cobia jigs that arrived, so come get you some while you got pick of the litter. Bonita, king mackerel, spanish mackerel, pompano, whiting, bluefish, shark, jack crevalle, and black drum have also been brought up. It’s a good time of year to make sure you bring different rod setups so you can take advantage of what species is running heavy at the time. It’s always a good idea to have some gotcha plugs, diamond jigs, Z-man pearl fluke streakz, wacky jigs, hexhead jigs, and some shadow rap lures on hand. We also have pompano rigs, live shrimp, FishBites, and FishGum if you want to get those pomps and whiting biting.
The surf has been pretty rough, but the fish are still running. Nice sized pompano are running the troughs as well as whiting, bluefish, spanish, jack crevalle, black drum, and redfish. Pompano rigs will always been a good way to go, but taking a lightweight rod with some pompano jigs or spoons will give you a nice fight with the bluefish and Spanish. Be sure to put you a heavy fluorocarbon or mono leader for those toothy critters.
The inshore is white capping from the wind, so boat or kayak might be a little rough, but you can always go to the national seashore or opal beach and wade some of the close in grass flats to try your hand at some speckled trout and redfish. Jack crevalle are also moving through so bring you a setup that can handle their punch. Top water plugs are always a fun way to go. Popping corks with live shrimp will also be a good setup to get them fired up.
If you wanna head into the freshwater, you won’t regret that either. Bass are bedding up and not hard to get a hold of. Live worms will get them going as well as chatter baits, spinners, or some suspending twitchbaits. Pickerel, stripers, and bream are also running wild, and can be caught on similar baits, small gold hooks with some worm chunks are always an oldy but a goody to get some dinner on your plates.
