Bay Fishing
The Spanish Mackerel are still biting well. Some up in the bay, but early in and around the jetties. There are some bluefish mixed in hitting some of the same lures.
The trout and redfish bite have been really great in almost all areas of the bays and bayous. The trout are on the flats as usual early and late. There are some big ones getting really active as well. They usually like the big live baits if you are looking for the larger ones. All sizes are hitting topwater early, thein subsurface crank baits as well as soft baits worked through the area slowly on the bottom around the potholes in the grass flats.

Pier Fishing
The past week kind of went a bit weird on the pompano. The bite was fabulous at different times of the day with limits common and double digit catches at that! Suddenly the bite changed and the pompano only wanted a super early bite. Predawn by an hour until the sun was up a bit. After that it was lockjaw mostly. Many fish just swam by and would not take jigs or set riggs much at all. This went on for days, but it has started to spread out a bit. If you go, go early, but go when you can. Make sure you have as fresh of a bait as you can do to increase the odds or go catch some ghost shrimp.
In other action, there were some Spanih mackerel at times and some kings have started to show as well as some cobia being decked at several piers including here and parts West.

Surf Fishing
If you just read the Pier portion, continue. If not go back and read that now on the pompano. What happened on the pier happened on the beach too. The fish suddenly went from full on limits to getting skunk a lot! That trend went on for a while. It has eased up with some catches in the evening and not just in the morning. Fresh peeled shrimp is still getting the best between the shrimp and the sandfleas. I would use both to to figure out what is working. They were up close some, but then recent reports had them over the bar and deeper. Try both. Try closer more in the lower light situations until you figure it out. Do not forget your Fishbites and/or Fishgum to add to your fresh bait.

Bottom Fishing
Mostly still great especially on hard bottom. Get out to 90-120ft and you should catch plots of everything. Triggers, red grouper, vermillion, porgies, and mangrove snapper that can be kept. Gags, red snapper, AJ’s are all out of season, but they are eating too. Be prepared for a copia to swim up on you with a pitch rod rigged with a live bait or a spinning rod with a cobia jig, eel type artificial bait. You will not have time to rig once it shows up. If It does not bite, start mincing up some frozen bait to keep it around and get it eating. This same method goes along with mahi that show up, but smaller spinning rigs with jigs and soft plastic work well for Mahi. The mahi have shown up a bit earlier this year so be on the lookout.

Nearshore Trolling
Same as last week. The pass area has been really hot.
The Spanish are the main target currently just off the second sand bar a bit. Keep a cobia rod ready, you might see one and hook up on a fish that will make the day! I have not heard much at all on blackfin tuna yet as well as the king mackerel.
