Destin Fishing Report 2-9-25
What a week weather wise. After months of cold, wind, and rough seas, this week was spectacular for February. Temps near or into the 70’s, calm seas, and light winds. Just hope you got a chance to get out there.
Reports are coming in that some of the big steel wrecks have some cigar minnows hanging around them. Lots of schools of little bonita busting everywhere eating rain minnows. Haven’t seen or heard of any bait in the pass.
Bottom Fishing
We went out to catch some mingo snapper for dinner. I hope it’s a sign for what to expect this summer.
We just fished some public places and mingo were tough to come by because of all the red snapper and amberjack. We only had bonita chunks and bonita strips. Snapper ate the chunks and keeper jacks ate the strips. Too bad they have to be released, but we ended up with enough mingo and almaco jacks for dinner.
Flounder bite on bull minnows was also good.

Pier Fishing
They caught squid before and after sun up most days. A few flounder, black drum, and redfish as well.
Should start getting spanish and sheepshead any day.

Bay Fishing
The jetties, Destin Bridge, and Coast Guard station are holding sheepshead. Use live shrimp and fiddlers.
The mid bay bridge is holding big reds and big black drum.

Surf Fishing
The pompano bite slowed a little this week but it's still pretty good for this time of year. Use FishBites, sand fleas, and shrimp to get pompano, reds, and whiting.

Nearshore Trolling
Mostly bonita this week and most of those were small. No more kings reported since the one last Sunday.
No reports on Blackfin. I think mainly due to no effort to try and get those.

Offshore Trolling
Several reports of wahoo this week at the fads and rigs. Some blackfin tuna and several nice swordfish caught.
