Navarre Fishing Report 10-26-23
Sadly, this wind this weekend is going to make fishing a bit difficult and the surf chopped up. The skies should be nice and clear though and a breeze will feel nice in the full sun. As the week goes, the wind will be shifting from the south to the north and it’s going to get pretty cold over those nights, which should hopefully bring those blackfin tuna in close for the pier and kayakers.
Pier
The pier has been doing great on the king mackerel and spanish mackerel with plenty of bonita, ladyfish and bluefish. Cigar minnows are still staying in there area for those that want to go sabiki up some. Gotchas or diamond jigs are a must.
Pompano, whiting, redfish, and black drum are also running in the surf so you can fish closer to the shore with some pompano rigs with fresh shrimp and Fish Gum or FishBites to hold your bait on. Even being on the pier, you will need some heavier weight to have your rigs not get pulled back out from the rip current.
King mackerel love this kind of choppy weather so if you don’t mind getting hit by the wind, throw you out some live cigar minnows on a king rig and see if you can get one fired up.
Surf
The surf is going to be ROUGH this weekend. If you want to give it a shot, be ready with some hefty sputnik weights and be sure to use Fish Gum or Fishbites to hold any bait from getting ripped off.
You can also use magic thread to help give extra support to any natural baits on your hook. You can try heavy casting spoons to cast into the wind and see if you can get a closer in spanish or bluefish to bite.
Inshore
The inshore is white capping too from the wind, but you can try to go to spots like opal beach and fish the grass flats behind some of the sand dunes, or head on down to bob sikes bridge and get in on the bull red run going on right now. Live shrimp is working best, but you can drop some finger mullet or live pinfish to get them biting too.
They are all around Pensacola pass, so bob sikes, three mile bridge, and fort pickens will definitely provide results for you if you want to make the drive out to those spots. If you use live shrimp, be sure to get you some magic thread to help hold your baits on. You can also bring you some gulp bait or zman soft plastics with some procure scent to help get them biting if you don’t want to mess around with the live.
