Navarre Fishing Report 6-3-22
It’s June and that means gag grouper are open, but amberjack are closed. Red snapper also opened for any federally permitted boats. Not much longer and recreational snapper fishing will be open, June 17th, we are coming for you!
The pier is still doing well with all things bait fish. Hardtails, ladyfish, cigar minnows, bluefish, and moonfish. They're all there. Grab some sabikis to get in on that fun. Kings are being caught here or there and the occasional mahi. Hopefully soon we will be seeing their schools working their way in for some good fights. Spanish are still hanging around as well as bonita, pompano, redfish, whiting, and jack crevalle. Tarpon are still being seen but they aren’t wanting to bite. Fingers crossed that changes soon. Be sure to have an array of different style baits and lures to be ready for anything passing through.
The surf has pompano, whiting, redfish, jack crevalle, hardtails, bluefish, and ladyfish running, but good luck getting past that grass right now. It is super thick and last checked doesn’t have any patches for you to go in between. If you don’t mind peeling that grass off, grab some FishGum or FishBites and throw out a pompano rig. Top water lures right now are just not going to cut it, the grass is just going to swallow it up.
If you want to head into the sound or bay, you won’t be disappointed. The wind has the waters chopped up a bit and that makes the fishing better as they move around. Redfish, black drum, speckled trout, spanish, jack crevalle, and flounder are being brought up and they all are decent sizes. Live shrimp works best but we are getting into that time of year where it is hard to get them, so get some fresh dead or try some Gulp! bait, suspending twitch baits, top water plugs, or spoons to get them fired up.
Off shore, there are plenty of weed lines scattered about that you can troll through to see if you can get some mahi, bonita, hardtails, king mackerel, and spanish mackerel. Nomad DTX Minnows, Stretch 25s, or Yo-Zuri Bonitas are always a good choice. As said above, amberjack are closed to keep, but gag grouper has opened up. Take some bonita belly, cigar minnows, whole squid, live ruby red lips, or other live baits you can get ahold of and drop them down on some of the natural bottom reefs and be ready to try to hog them out of those holes. Red snapper is open for boats that have a federal permit and in about 2 weeks the recreational red snapper season will be opening and ready for you all to get your limit. Be sure to stock up on lead and hooks so you will be ready.
