Navarre Fishing Report 6-9-24
It’s about time we had a beautiful weekend full of nice sunshine and calm waves.
This week should remain pretty slick with a chance of bigger waves by next weekend, so take advantage of it while you can to get in on the snapper bite.
Pier
The pier has been doing great in the mornings and evenings with pompano, whiting, jack crevalle, king mackerel, spanish mackerel, bonita, bluefish, ladyfish, and cobia. There have been tarpon sightings and we should also start seeing some black snapper being reeled up soon too.
It’s the time of year to bring different rod setups with you so you can take advantage of what is running through at the time. Got-Cha lures are always a good way to go for the spanish, bluefish, and ladyfish. Just be sure to use a heavier mono leader to fight against their teeth. Don’t want to lose your lure on the first cast out.
Ballyhoo or cigar minnows on a size 2 treble hook will help get those kings biting. You can also use some of the bigger X-Raps if you want to use artificial lures.
Tarpon are being seen but aren’t seeming to want to bite yet, but it doesn’t hurt to try and see if you will be able to get them to bite. Large swim baits on a 1-3oz jig head will help you be able to launch your lure out as far as possible.

Surf
We sadly have to bring you the bad new of the dreaded June grass. It came in this week and it is thick out there. This is going to cause you some trouble of getting anything reeled in as you will be having to peel the grass off your line every couple cranks. We hope it isn’t going to stick around too long.
If you want to get out and try anyway, use some pompano rigs with some Fishgum or FishBites with a small sand flea or piece of fresh shrimp. Pompano, whiting, bluefish, ladyfish, redfish, and black drum are the main species running at the moment and like the pier earlier morning or evening will work best to get them on your line.
The middle of the day heat is just too hard on them and they go to deeper water. This will give you some time to get out of the sun and enjoy some AC time.

Inshore
The inshore bite has been doing really well with jack crevalle, redfish, black drum, speckled trout, and flounder.
Live shrimp is your best bet but we are getting into that time of year where shrimp are going to be hard to come across. Stock up on some Z-Man soft plastics, Gulp! scented baits, or try some suspending twitchbaits.
If you want to go with a natural bait, try out some mullet chunks or finger mullet. The frozen shrimp works well too If you are able to find a spot not swarming with pinfish.
Popping corks are also a good item to have and see if you can make some extra noise to get them to come check you out.

Offshore
Offshore is also doing great, especially now that snapper is open and weather has cooperated enough for us to get out.
Snapper are not too picky and grouper seem to like most of the same baits. Cigar minnows is a favorite for anyone going for bigger sizes, bonita chunks also work well.
If you are using a 2 hook chicken rig, you can use smaller pieces of shrimp and just try to use extra weight to get the bait down quicker and away from the triggerfish which are notorious bait thieves.
Grab some mackerel trees or stinger rigs to troll for some Kings, spanish, and bonita as you head out for your snapper limit.

Freshwater
If you are trying to hit up the rivers, the bream are hitting well with small pieces of nightcrawlers.
The river swelling has gone down enough that you can still manage to get to your favorite spots without being flooded.
The bass seemed to have moved off the beds enough for you to try some spinner baits or larger worms. Bruised banana seems to be working well for them this week.
