PC/PCB Fishing Report 6-3-24
Surf Fishing
The pompano bite has been good to excellent at times. Avoiding areas swamped in sargassum grass. The West end of the beaches have a good bit, but if your beach gets it, just move to a more clear area. It should not last long.
The whiting bite has been better with some nice sized ones in the mix. Slot redfish are working as well. The ladyfish and the hardtails can be a constant problem if they show up.
Odd catches from the surf this week were a king mackerel and some flounder. The flounder is not that odd, but not overly common either.
Sand fleas and FishBites or Fishgum have been the primary successful baits. Early and late are good, but the water is still cool enough for some midday action too.

Bottom Fishing
Open red snapper and que the storms!
Saturday was a wash. Sunday saw a lot of successful anglers getting their limits. A number of reports were seeing a good show on reefs out to 10 miles, but a slow to no bite. As they went further, the bite got better and limits were had quickly!
Some red grouper were caught. On was a monster red grouper on Semper-Fi Charters with Captain Eric Wilkas.
Vermillion were still cooperating as well. Various porgies, aka white snapper were good too.
A number of nice cobia were caught by alert anglers doing bottom fishing. Have a pitch rod ready to go if one pops up!
Reminder: Trigger fish and Amberjack are now CLOSED. Gag Groupers are also closed.

Nearshore Trolling
King mackerel, King mackerel, king mackerel! We are having a very nice run of Kings just outside the pass early, and all the way in to just a bit outside the sand bars. Dusters and plugs are working, but it is so much more fun to catch one bump trolling with a live bait outside the pass. Remember to set you drag light, let it run 4 or 5 seconds before putting some drag on it.
If the tail of your bait gets slashed off, immediately open your bail for the return, or another king to get it. If you are lucky you might get one to sky rocket on it. That is so cool and it will be a memory you will never forget!
Be prepared for mahi coming through. Look at any structure and keep at least 3, 4k spinning reels rigged with a 1/4 oz jig and a soft plastic. Check any weed mats or floating debris. You might end up with a cooler full of fish taco supplies.

Pier Fishing
King mackerel have been showing up early and late. Flat lined live and dead baits are working as well as several different lipped plugs in the cigar minnow size.
Pompano, redfish, and a variety of other species including mahi are showing up at times with the sargassum weed.
NOTE: The City pier at Pier Park has limited hours due to a lightning strike. It is open 7a-6p.

Offshore Fishing
Absolutely on fire from top to bottom. On the bottom, there has been a phenomenal swordfish bite. Many anglers are successful most days with 60-80 lb fish. There was one boat out of Destin that got a monster 300lb swordfish!
Up top there are some very nice mahi and some small to medium ones as well.
The wahoo bite has been good as well as blackfin and yellowfin tuna.
